Hi, I am Shey!

Did I ever wonder if I would cook Sri Lankan food for a living? Nope, I did not.

I am Shey. I was born and raised in Sri Lanka, and I moved to the Netherlands in 2013. By profession, I am a Marketer who is shifting her career more and more towards the food industry. Back home, when I was young, I never learned to cook from anyone. I was good with flavours and had a strong opinion about what went to my body. I loved the food from my friends at school and we shared rice packets for lunch. This introduced me to a world of Sinhala food and I fell in love with it. My stepmom was a great cook and so was my father. Although I never properly learned to cook, I picked up the trick from watching and tasting food.

Covid-19 and Curry O'Clock

I founded Curry O’Clock in 2020 in the middle of the COVID Pandemic. I developed the concept after hosting a Sri Lankan cooking workshop for a friend as a birthday present. The idea was to create a way to share my knowledge about Sri Lankan food and make my culture accessible to everyone. Since then, I have hosted several cooking workshops and expanded my business online.

Curry O’Clock is a company that teaches people how to cook and eat fresh curries. We cook Sri Lankan food during our workshops at home and online.

Curry O’Clock is fully equipped with technology to easily do online cooking workshops for companies and individuals. Next to our home visit workshops, online workshop demand has increased tremendously due to COVID-19 as a great team-building activity.

Our mission is to spread the love of fresh food, healthy eating habits and good nutrition by sharing our knowledge with the world through workshops. We believe that everyone has a right to know how to cook delicious meals that are healthy and filling.
